Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Chip – Silicon-Glass Hybrid Model
Our Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) chips are designed to simulate porous media and are widely used in research exploring gas injection effects in oil fields, emulsification chemical development, microbiological enhanced oil production, and the modelling and development of computational simulation tools.
This porous media model replicates the behavior of natural rock. Compared to other , it features significantly smaller pores to achieve a 1 Darcy permeability, without requiring a substantial reduction in etch depth. This is made possible by employing a silicon-glass hybrid design.
This specific model is provided by the Bandung Institute of Technology.
What is a Silicon-Glass Hybrid?
In this chip, the advantages of two materials are combined to optimize performance:

Silicon layer:
The silicon layer contains the channel structures that represent the rock pores. Using dry etching techniques allows for higher aspect ratios than wet etching, enabling the formation of smaller pores without significantly reducing the channel depth. -
Glass layer:
The glass layer contains the inlet holes and provides optical transparency, allowing direct visual observation through the chip.
The silicon and glass layers are fusion bonded, creating a sealed, durable chip with excellent mechanical strength and optical accessibility.
