Building a Biomedical One-Stop-Shop: Micronit's Partnership with NXTGEN Hightech

In recent years, the Netherlands has evolved into an international hub of high-tech innovation, with a strong academic focus on areas such as Lab-on-Chip, Organ-on-Chip, synthetic organs, and cell production technology. Despite this wealth of knowledge, there are challenges in translating academic understanding into marketable products and applications that have an influence on the life sciences and health domains.

The goal of the Biomed domain, one of the 6 subdomains NXTGEN HighTech, is to integrate the extensive application knowledge in the biomedical sector with the strong production ecosystem in the Netherlands. As a result, the Netherlands hopes to serve as a catalyst for the development of new biomedical systems.

To ensure that users may benefit from developed technologies, the NXTGEN Hightech Biomed domain focuses on creating a 'One-stop-shop' for biomedical applications and products. This is a central access point for all affiliated organizations to share knowledge and technology.

Micronit plays an important role in the development of the One-stop-shop, working with several partners under the NXTGEN Hightech program. This collaboration is based on combining experience in the fields of biomedical device manufacturing and the integration of components such as sensors and of biological materials such as cells and  bioactive materials.

About NXTGEN Hightech

NXTGEN Hightech is a leading innovation program focused on developing advanced technologies across various sectors. The program fosters collaboration between science, industry, and government to drive groundbreaking innovations that address future challenges in the Netherlands.

The key subdomains of the program are:

  • Agri-food: Innovations in agriculture and food production for a sustainable future.
  • Biomedical production technology: Development of advanced production techniques for medical applications.
  • Composites: New lightweight, strong materials for applications in industries such as aerospace and transportation.
  • Energy: Technologies contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
  • Laser Satellite Communication: Enhancing global communication technology through lasers and satellites.
  • Semiconductors: Innovations in semiconductor technology, critical for digital and automated systems.
