Expert insight: Surface Functionalization

In microfluidic product development, substrate materials most of the time need some modification to achieve the right surface properties. Surfaces can be functionalized by the application of a (localized) coating, which may contain biomaterials that are required for the assay that will be performed.

Expert Insight

Maciej Skolimowski, our Surface functionalization expert, gives an insight in the various functionalization options and deposition techniques that Micronit can offer. Maciej says about this: “By choosing the right surface functionalization treatments, one can achieve the optimal surface properties to get the best results out of the (diagnostic) test that will be performed on the platform”.

There is a range of surface functionalization treatments. Choices are made based on intrinsic material properties and the demands of the assay the microfluidic product is used for. Would you like to know more about this? Then read Maciej's white paper, in which he discusses some of the most relevant surface functionalization processes and application methods.
