How surfactant chemistry and glass microfluidics create stable, monodisperse droplets? In this joint application note, Micronit and Emulseo demonstrate a powerful combination of high-quality glass microfluidic chips and advanced surfactant chemistry for droplet-based workflows.
From challenge to solution
How to get high-performance, reproducible droplet generation? That was the main challenge Micronit and Emulseo faced. The study focuses on droplet generation using Micronit’s Focused Flow Droplet Generator and Emulseo’s FluoSurf™-O, Fluo-Oil™ 7500, and Fluo-ST3™. These products together enable the creation of highly stable and uniform water-in-oil emulsions—critical for precision applications such as ddPCR, single-cell analysis, and high-throughput screening.
Two chip configurations were tested:
- A chip with factory-applied hydrophobic coating, which was ready-to-use and time-saving.
- An untreated chip coated with Fluo-ST3™, which offered flexibility and reusability.
Both approaches delivered excellent results: droplet monodispersity under 5% and consistent performance, thanks to optimized flow design and surface treatment. The combination of Micronit’s chip precision and Emulseo’s surfactant innovation supports reliable and scalable microfluidic workflows in life science and diagnostic applications.
