DNA testing has revolutionized the way suspects can be indentified by the police force. Although the technique is highly accurate there are limitations. Taking a DNA test can take up to three days and has to be carried out in specialized lab. Lab-on-a chip technology can bring the test out of the lab into the hands of the police. This will make DNA identification as easy as running a license plate check.
The only thing the police has to do is take a DNA mouth swab and the lab-on-chip and related instrument will do the rest. Current research has shown that getting from sample-to-answer can be done in a couple of hours without compromising accuracy.
